One of Europe’s most respected and well-established gaming brands has finally crossed the Atlantic. The Kindred Group debuted its flagship online gaming brand Unibet in New Jersey in 2019, before going live in Pennsylvania later that year.

In both states, players can enjoy online casino games and sports betting, packaged under one app.

The expansion prospects for Unibet’s online casino product are pretty slim right now, as only West Virginia and Michigan are on tap to launch a legal online gambling industry. However, Unibet has greater hope on the sports betting front, where we expect it to launch in Colorado, Indiana, and Michigan. Also, look for Unibet online sportsbooks in Iowa and Illinois further down the road, when those states lift their dubious in-person mobile registration requirement.

Snapshot: It’s tough to find too much fault with Unibet’s online casino product, which features a generous assortment of slots and table games, a solid two-part welcome bonus of $10 free and a 100% match up to $500, and an integrated sportsbook. The online casino is available today in both the Pennsylvania and New Jersey markets, and may expand to Michigan relatively soon.

Pros:

  • One-click integration between the online casino and sportsbook
  • Solid depositing options including ACH and PayPal
  • Progressive slot machines with mammoth payouts
  • $10 free no-deposit bonus
  • Mobile apps for both Android and Apple devices

Cons:

  • No loyalty program
  • Sluggish loading times
  • Lack of innovation

In What States Is Unibet Online Casino Available?

Right now, Unibet online casino and sportsbook is only available in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In New Jersey, Unibet is partnered with industry newcomer Hard Rock Casino, which offers a land-based casino in Atlantic City. Mohegan Sun Pocono provides the parent license for Unibet in Pennsylvania.

The Kindred Group has been vocal about its aggressive expansion plans, so it’s possible we’ll see Unibet in the following states shortly:

  • Michigan: Online gambling is legal in Michigan, but the industry hasn’t gone live yet. When it does, Unibet stands to be at the forefront of the market.
  • West Virginia: Another state where iGaming is legal but not live, although with only five online casino licenses available, Unibet’s entry paths are limited. Expect West Virginia online gambling to launch in late 2020, at the earliest.

As more states eventually legalize iGaming, we will see Unibet expand its reach. Check back often to read about changes in the legislative climate for online gambling.

Unibet Online Casino Review

Hopes were high when Kindred sealed the deal with Hard Rock Casino in 2018, paving the way for its long-anticipated entry into the U.S.

Does the product deliver? Yes, but it hardly dazzles.

Unibet offers a solid number of games, numbering over 400 in the NJ market and more than 100 in PA, with new products being added on the regular. There are even a fair number of exclusives offered to PA players.

The platform is powered by SG Digital’s Open Platform System in New Jersey, and Pala Interactive’s recently improved online gambling software in Pennsylvania. It makes for two sites with slightly different feels, but the differences aren’t too distracting.

In both states, players have the option to play on iOS and Android powered devices, via downloadable apps. Apple users will have the option to download the product directly from their mobile browser or the App Store, while Android aficionados are limited to downloading the app directly from Unibet’s mobile site. From either app, players will gain access to both Unibet’s online casino and sportsbook.

Cashiering on Unibet is solid, with myriad viable options available to players. And the welcome bonus for new players, while not too big, comes with OK wagering requirements.

However, the lack of a loyalty program, exciting promotions, and really anything resembling true innovation, has us feeling lukewarm toward Unibet. Simply put, it’s just not doing enough in the hypercompetitive U.S. iGaming market to really stand out. Worth a shot, especially for new players, but not our first gaming choice.

Unibet is a legal online gambling site, regulated by the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement in New Jersey, and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in Pennsylvania. These are the same bodies that oversee brick & mortar casino operations in their respective states.

Unibet Bonuses For New Players

Oddly, Unibet offers slightly different variations of its welcome bonus in NJ and PA. The topline numbers are the same, $10 free and a 100% match up to $500, but the terms are different. Read on to learn the differences.

$10 Free

First up, players who register an account will be entitled to a $10 bonus to try out the casino. In NJ, the promo code for this bonus is UBCASINO10, and in Pennsylvania, players will merely have to tick off a box, saying they want the bonus.

In NJ, the bonus carries a 25x wagering requirement on slots, and 250x on table games. What this means, is that you’ll have to wager $250 on slots or $2,500 on blackjack, roulette, or other table games to withdraw. Good luck with that. Clearly, this bonus is meant for players to trial the product, offering just a slim chance of a payout.

In Pennsylvania, the terms are more generous, as the wagering requirement is only 3x on slots, 30x on table games, and 10x on sports. We don’t exactly know why sports are included in the wagering requirements, as there is a separate sportsbook bonus that’s much better, but there it is. We assume it’s meant for players who wish to mix and match their casino and sports betting play.

Players have 30 days to meet the turnover requirements, otherwise the bonus gets thrown in the dumpster.

100% Unibet Casino Match Bonus Up To $500

First time depositing players can snag a 100% deposit match up to $500. Deposit $100 and the casino will toss another $100 in your bonus bank. Deposit $500 and receive the maximum. It’s not the flashiest deal out there, but certainly worth taking advantage of.

The signup code in NJ is UBCASINO500, which players can enter at the time of deposit. In PA, all players have to do it check off which bonus (if any) they want at registration. There’s also an option to opt out of all bonuses, although we highly discourage this.

The wagering requirement in NJ is 25x on slots, and 250x on other games. Our advice, stick to the high-return slots. Anything that returns 96%+ (and there are plenty) will be +EV for the duration of the bonus.

At Unibet, it’s good to be physically located in NJ, because in Pennsylvania (for whatever reason), the wagering requirements are higher. We’re talking 20x the deposit plus bonus amount (or 40x the deposit amount). Meaning whereas in NJ you would clear a $500 bonus by wagering $12.5k on slots, clearing that same bonus will require $20k in bets in PA. Given this, PA residents close to the border might consider a trip across the Delaware.

Important: Players can choose between casino and sportsbook bonuses. The standing sportsbook offer is 2 x $10 free bets at registration, and an up to $250 risk free bet. In PA, this is definitely the better play.

Registering An Account At Unibet Casino

The registration process at Unibet is neither lengthy, nor overly intrusive, and should only take a couple minutes, pending you have your details in order.

Those details are:

  • First and last name
  • Full address
  • Date of birth
  • Mobile number
  • The last four digits of your SSN
  • Email address
  • Password

Because Unibet exists on two different platforms, the registration process differs slightly in NJ and PA. For instance, in NJ, you’ll have to provide the answers to more security questions and tick off a couple extra checkboxes. Also, PA makes it easier to select a welcome bonus. Otherwise, they’re very similar, and shouldn’t confuse.

Players that are not the legal gambling age of 21 won’t be able to create an account, and key casino employees and those on state exclusion lists (either voluntary or involuntary) are also ineligible.

Also of note, players don’t need to hold residence in a state to create an account there. In fact, registration can take place just about anywhere. The only caveat is that players must be geolocated in a state (either by WiFi or 4g/5g tech) before playing for real-money in that market.

If there’s ever a reason to choose a regulated site over an offshore one, it’s the freedom offered by a legal site’s cashier. Instead of being forced into inconvenient depositing methods like bitcoin, players will be able to use their checking account, PayPal account, or cash in hand to fund their account.

Payment processing still isn’t perfect, but it’s far better than any other time in regulated iGaming history.

Unibet’s cashier is pretty standard for the industry, with five primary depositing options, and a sixth possibility for PA users.

Deposits

CasinoUSA recommends the following depositing methods:

VIP Preferred: Players opting for VIP Preferred will fund their iGaming account with a checking account. All that’s needed is a valid routing and account number, tied to your name. The big drawback to this method is that VIP Preferred sets a weekly depositing limit across ALL online gambling sites, and it starts out rather low. But stay active long enough and it will climb. High acceptance rates and instantaneous transactions offset this lone shortcoming.

PayPal: If you already have a personal PayPal account that’s linked to a checking account, then this is probably the way to go. PayPal acceptance rates are just about 100%, as long as you have a balance in your account, and near 100% even if you don’t. PayPal also allows for sizeable deposits, and offers an extra layer of security, as players will handle their transaction from a dedicated PayPal portal.

Unibet Play+: This is a viable option for those who have trouble funding their account via VIP Preferred or a credit/debit card. Play+ is a prepaid card that players fund directly from Unibet’s cashier, and can be used for online gambling transactions on the site. Once the physical card arrives in the mail, it can be used wherever Discover is accepted.

Other depositing methods:

  • Credit/debit cards: This payment processing vehicle ranks lower on our list due to poor acceptance rates. The situation is improving, but we’d be lying if we said we’ve ever had success depositing with a credit card. Also, banks may treat credit card transactions as cash advances, meaning players will be imposed a fee.
  • PayNearMe: If you don’t mind trucking down to a nearby 7-Eleven, CVS, or Family Dollar store, and don’t care if your deposit is limited to $500 max, PayNearMe is serviceable. But it’s just too much of a drag to go through the hassle of traveling away from home. Use it if you don’t have a checking account or PayPal account.
  • Cash at the Cage (Mohegan Sun Pocono only): If you live in Pennsylvania, Mohegan Sun Pocono will accept cash at the casino cage to fund Unibet accounts. Funding only takes a few minutes, but the big downside is that PA casinos don’t allow online gambling on their casino floors. Seems counterintuitive.

Withdrawals

Withdrawal options are limited to:

  • PayPal
  • VIP Preferred
  • Unibet Play+
  • Mohegan Sun casino cage (PA only)
  • Check by mail (PA only)

Not exactly the most inclusive set of options, but certainly satisfactory. Withdrawals speeds vary by method, with PayPal and VIP Preferred the fastest digital methods. For these, approvals usually take a day or two and then it might be another 1-2 days before the funds hit your account.

To our knowledge, Unibet does not require additional documentation when requesting a small to mid-sized withdrawal.

Unibet Game Selection

Relative to the markets it operates in, Unibet’s game selection is pretty much average. In NJ, the site features all the standards like penny slots, progressives, blackjack, roulette, Live Casino, and other table games, but there isn’t much in the way of exclusives or niche products. Players can enjoy roughly 400+ titles with more added weekly.

Despite only supporting 100 or so games, Unibet PA holds up better compared to the competition, thanks to a couple of exclusives. If the site continues with this trend, it should hold its own against more well-known brands.

Unibet Slots

As is the case with just about any iGaming site, slots comprise the majority of Unibet’s games. Unibet NJ leads the way with approximately 400 penny slots, offered by top providers such as NetEnt, IGT, and Big Time Gaming. Newer to the site are appealing MegaWays, with titles like Bonanza and White Rabbit already soaring in popularity.

Overall, the quality is high, with not too many throwaway or antiquated titles. Fans of old-school slots will be happy to know that Unibet NJ supports plenty of games found on brick and mortar casino floors, like Quick Hit Platinum, Cleopatra, Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin, Medusa, and three different Zeus variants.

If there’s one area where Unibet NJ’s slot selection really excels, it’s jackpot slots. At last count, the site offers 15 games with mammoth top prizes, up to nearly $1 million. Granted, not all of these are progressives, but the ones that are, like Divine Fortune, Cleopatra Mega Jackpots, and Siberian Storm Mega Jackpots, amp the excitement level up a few notches.

On the PA side, the slot selection is much smaller, numbering under 100. This is about par for the newer market, as it currently supports fewer licensed providers than NJ. On Unibet PA, slots by NetEnt and IGT dominate the lobby. However, there are a few enticing exclusives sprinkled in, most notably the jackpot slot Jackpot Shores, a beach themed progressive with different jackpot tiers, and a top prize that often floats over $100k.

Unibet Live Dealer Casino

There are still some players that are wary of iGaming, and for those, Live Dealer acts as a bridge. It’s also a big hit among those who enjoy the social atmosphere of live casino play, but don’t always feel like trekking down to their local casino. Live Dealer juxtaposes live with online, with betting that is handled electronically, but with games dealt by real dealers using physical cards.

Truth be told, if an online casino wants to be taken seriously, it almost has to incorporate Live Dealer games as part of its arsenal. Unibet rises to the challenge … sort of.

There are no Live Dealer games on UnibetPA, but in fairness, not a single PA online casino supports them as of yet.

In NJ, Evolution Gaming provides the platform for Unibet’s live dealer product, with games streamed directly from its partner’s (Hard Rock Casino AC) casino floor.

The product itself is fairly fresh, featuring a variety of settings and views, high quality video output, and a crisp aesthetic. Unfortunately, the game selection is lagging, and the games themselves don’t feature the best rulesets. For those strictly hunting for value, they’re better off playing other games.

Live Dealer games include:

  • Blackjack: $30 – $50 minimum
  • Infinite Blackjack: Same as Blackjack, except all players share the same hand. $5 minimum on the main game, and there are four different side bets.
  • Baccarat with a $1 minimum.
  • Three Card Poker ($0.50 minimum)
  • Roulette and Slingshot Roulette with the latter being a digital game. Both games feature wheels with a 0 and a 00.

Unibet Table Games

Right now, Unibet PA has a really limited number of digital table games. There’s BlackJack by NetEnt, a solid product with favorable player rules and a multi-hand option. And that’s it for blackjack.

The site features six roulette games, including two exclusives, but besides them being of the American (double zero) or European/French (single zero) varieties, there really isn’t much differentiating them.

Unibet PA also supports a single Baccarat game by NetEnt. It’s a solid, realistic product; we just wish there were more like it to choose from.

Unibet NJ does much better, with eight blackjack products, including a couple of niche games like Zappit where players can toss their hard 15- 18’s for new hands, at the cost of all hands pushing on a dealer 22. There are also seven roulette products, which again, don’t vary all that much from one another outside of the number of zeros on the wheel. Hint: Play the variants with just a single zero for the best odds.

Finally, the site features a variety of carnival games like Texas Hold’em Plus, Let it Ride, Mississippi Stud, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em. These games are provided by ShuffleMaster, and we have to say, the overall feel and dynamics of these games are impressive. It almost feels like you’re mixing it up at a live casino floor.

Baccarat and niche games like DJ Wild round out a solid library of table games. But unfortunately, the site doesn’t support virtual sports, scratchers, or other more “out-there” products.

Unibet Video Poker

Unibet NJ comes up way short when it comes to video poker, with only three single-line games offered: Jacks or Better, Bonus Poker, and Double Bonus Poker. These are all flash games, and will be phased out soon, so Unibet better get its act together fast if it hopes to attract VP fans.

On the plus side, the games do feature some of the best possible paytables, and run smoothly enough.

Turning to Unibet PA, the video poker selection is a bit more interesting. First off, is a suite of nine games by Game King. The paytables on these games are terrific, soaring as high as 99.73% with optimal play. Here, players can enjoy popular titles like Double Double Bonus Poker, Deuces Wild, and Joker Poker.

Otherwise, there are three exclusive games, although two of them (Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild) are just different takes on familiar games. The one standout is Deuces and Joker Wild, a wild game with tons of big hands, but lower payouts.

Unibet Online Casino Software

Like so many other aspects of Unibet’s iGaming operation, its software is workmanlike but fails to stand out.

It should be prefaced that Unibet works with two platform providers: Scientific Games in NJ, and Pala Interactive in PA. The software therefore differs somewhat between the two, although the general aesthetic and feel is similar.

In both markets, Unibet is available as a browser-based platform on desktop, and as a mobile app for Apple and Android devices. The apps, as well as the desktop version, feature integrated sportsbooks and combined wallets, making for a fluid experience with minimal overhead. The mobile experience largely mimics desktop, with most of the same games, the same account management features, and ready access to the cashier.

We do preference the NJ version of the software, as it’s less blocky, and grants access to more filters.

The real problem with the software isn’t what it does, but what it doesn’t do. Simply put, there isn’t anything really special about it. There isn’t any advanced filtering, so finding a game can be a chore, especially in NJ where over 400 games are supported. The lobbies are sluggish to load, and there aren’t any account management features we haven’t seen before.

Furthermore, in order to view sportsbook odds from the app, one has to geolocate first. We find this absurd. Why limit who can check out your own sportsbook?

Overall, there’s nothing particularly terrible about Unibet’s software, but it could do a lot better.

Does Unibet Have A Loyalty Program?

Unfortunately, no. This is another area that has us scratching our heads, as nearly all of the most competitive online casinos offer some sort of loyalty kickbacks.

Instead, we’re left with a few lukewarm promotions. For instance, the site offers a 25% match up to $50 every Thursday, with a 25x (20x in PA) wagering requirement. Ho hum.

There’s also table game leaderboards, with top prizes clocking in at $1,000, and a semi-unique Lucky Spin promo where players who hit the biggest slot multipliers of the week win a bonus, which again, is subject to a wagering requirement.

There’s no understating this: Unibet desperately needs a loyalty program if it has any aspirations of rising to the top of the U.S. regulated online gambling market.

Unibet Casino Customer Support Options

Both Unibet NJ and PA provide support via four channels:

  • Help Center: Find answers to common queries here
  • Live Chat: Chat directly with a representative – 24/7 in NJ and from 8 am – 11 pm daily in PA
  • Phone: Also 24/7 in NJ and 8 am – 11 pm daily in PA
  • Email: There are different email addresses for different issues in NJ, and one universal email for PA players.

Customer service on Unibet is just fine, in both markets. Our questions were answered swiftly and accurately, although more difficult questions will often require a couple layers of communication.

The Help centers could use an aesthetic overhaul, but we’re there for answers, and in that regard, it mostly delivers.
