Iowa Sportsbooks

Iowa legalized sports betting in 2019, and the first sportsbooks opened later that year. Today, Iowa sportsbooks offer wagers in-person at most casinos and online or through mobile apps accessible from within the state.

Anyone 21 or older may sign up for a mobile betting account to make deposits, place wagers, and receive payouts from anywhere within Iowa borders.

Mobile Sportsbooks in Iowa

Legislation passed in 2019 allows each Iowa casino to launch a retail sportsbook and up to two mobile betting platforms either independently or in partnership with third-party operators such as DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook.

Under state law, customers must be 21 or older to place bets online and physically located within state lines. State residency is not required; nonresidents are welcome to bet online while visiting Iowa.

Remote registration was authorized beginning January 1st, 2021, for mobile sportsbook accounts. State law once required all new customers to visit a casino in person for age and identity verification, but now all customers may sign up from anywhere within Iowa.

Mobile sportsbooks in Iowa are permitted to accept a wide range of wager types covering most professional and college leagues, plus some amateur contests such as the Olympics.

The following mobile sportsbook listings offer a brief overview of what to expect from each.

Each of the following Iowa sportsbooks is licensed and regulated by the state Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC). In-person and Iowa sports bettors can confirm mobile betting licenses by visiting the IRGC website and then viewing the facility license details of any casino.

DraftKings Sportsbook Iowa

  • Website:
  • IRGC Status: Approved
  • Casino Partners: Wild Rose Clinton, Wild Rose Emmetsburg, or Wild Rose Jefferson

DraftKings maintains retail sportsbooks at each of the three Wild Rose casinos and launched mobile betting in February 2020.

Residents and visitors can download the mobile DraftKings app or visit to place wagers on a full range of professional and college sports from anywhere inside state lines.

Frequent promotions, a generous welcome bonus, and a physical presence at three land-based casinos should make DraftKings one of the more competitive Iowa sportsbooks.

PointsBet Sportsbook Iowa

  • Website:
  • IRGC Status: Approved
  • Casino Partner: Catfish Bend Casino

PointsBet Sportsbook launched in-person wagering at the Catfish Bend Casino in August 2019 and followed with the launch of mobile betting that November.

PointsBet Iowa offers standard sports wagers on all major and college sports leagues but also offers a form of points-based wagering it describes as “the more you’re right, the more you win.”

For example, imagine a customer wagering $10 per point on the total going over 45 in an NFL game. If the true total ends up at 51, the bettor will win a payout of $60 ($10 x 6 points over the projected total). On the other hand, the bettor would lose $60 if the actual total fell 6 points short of the projection.

PointsBet customers can set maximum win and loss amounts to cap the downside potential, but PointsBetting is still a more high-risk/high-reward prospect than traditional betting.

Caesars Sportsbook Iowa

  • IRGC Status: Approved
  • Casino Partners: Prairie Meadows, Lakeside Casino, Isle Casino Waterloo and Isle Casino Bettendorf

Caesars Sportsbook operates four retail venues in Iowa and offers mobile betting across the state. A first deposit bonus, an ongoing loyalty program, and regular promotions await all new customers.

The William Hill brand is one of the bigger names to enter the Iowa market with locations in most other regulated states and a larger international division.

BetMGM Sportsbook Iowa

  • Website:
  • IRGC Status: Approved
  • Casino Partner: Diamond Jo Dubuque

BetMGM came to Iowa in late 2020 through a partnership with Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque. As one would expect from a sportsbook operated by a company as large as BetMGM, customers will find frequent promotions and a slick betting interface.

The BetMGM Iowa app is compatible with iOS and Android devices, while desktop users can head to BetMGM to bet online from anywhere in state lines. BetMGM sportsbook provides daily in-play betting markets, and live streaming sports feeds for select games.

BetRivers Sportsbook Iowa

  • Website:
  • IRGC Satus: Approved
  • Casino Partners: Wild Rose Jefferson, Wild Rose Clinton, and Wild Rose Emmetsburg

BetRivers Sportsbook is partnered with Wild Rose Resorts, the parent company of three casinos in Iowa, to offer mobile betting. BetRivers does not operate a retail sportsbook in Iowa because DraftKings hosts retail sportsbooks at each of the Wild Rose properties. Still, state law allows Wild Rose to partner with multiple companies – one of those being BetRivers.

Rush Street Gaming owns the BetRivers brand, based out of Chicago. The company offers mobile betting in multiple states and is known for providing a straightforward and fair experience. Customers can expect fast payouts, an active in-play betting schedule, and even live streaming sports feeds for certain games so customers can watch games live while betting on them.

FanDuel Sportsbook Iowa

  • Website:
  • IRGC Status: Approved
  • Casino Partners: Diamond Jo Dubuque and Diamond Jo Worth

FanDuel operates sportsbooks at both Diamond Jo locations in partnership with Boyd Gaming and added mobile betting in September 2020. The FanDuel app can be downloaded for iOS and Android devices, while desktop users can head to to get started.

  • Casino Partner: Hard Rock Sioux City

Wagers placed in-person and online count towards the Rock Star Rewards Club, which offers free casino and food credits, retail shop discounts, and other benefits such as invitations to VIP events.

Q Sportsbook

  • Website:
  • IRGC Status: Approved
  • Casino Partner: Q Casino

Q Casino Sportsbook launched in mid-2019 and was followed by mobile apps for iOS and Android devices later that year. The Q Sportsbook app is lightweight and makes for a quick download, but the interface is a bit clunky and already feels dated compared to some other mobile sportsbooks launched in Iowa.

Q Sportsbook offers wagers on pro and college US sports leagues along with major international leagues. The soccer coverage is above average, with wagers for the UEFA, Premier League, and various other national-level leagues. In-play betting is offered as well but mostly revolves around standard half, quarter, and full-time games outcomes.

Elite Sportsbook

  • Website:
  • IRGC Status: Approved
  • Casino Partners: Rhythm City Casino, Riverside Casino and Grand Falls Casino

Elite Sportsbook was one of the first mobile sportsbooks to launch in Iowa and is partnered with three casinos. Customers can place wagers online at from any desktop or mobile device, but Elite Sportsbook does not offer a standalone mobile app.

The Elite Sportsbook interface is not the greatest in terms of presentation, but it is fast from any device, and navigation is simple. The sportsbook covers a standard range of pre-game and in-play betting markets, although individual games are somewhat limited in the types of wagers on offer.

Betfred Sportsbook Iowa

  • Website:
  • IRGC Status: Approved
  • Casino Partners: Grand Falls Casino Resort

Betfred Sportsbook came to Iowa in September 2020 in partnership with Grand Falls Casino Resort. New users may claim a sizable deposit bonus and bet online through the Betfred website or mobile apps developed for iOS and Android devices.

Betfred comes to Iowa with limited name recognition but is actually a major operator on the international stage. As a result, bettors can expect a clean and functional app, fast deposits, and competent customer support.

Bally Bets Iowa

  • Website: TBA
  • IRGC Status: Pending

Bally’s Corporation, formerly Twin Rivers Worldwide Holdings, announced in November 2020 that it plans to offer mobile betting in Iowa. Bally’s has not yet confirmed what brand name it will operate under, but there is chatter that it may launch under the name Bally Bets. In Iowa, Bally’s will operate off the sports betting license held by Grand Falls Casino.
