Harrahs Online Casino Review

HarrahsCasino.com launched in 2013 as an extension of Caesars Interactive Entertainment, which also owns and operates Caesars Online. With software provided by 888, Harrah’s Online offers real money slots, blackjack and roulette to anyone age 21 or above and located within New Jersey state lines.

Snapshot: Harrah’s Online NJ Casino offers real money casino games to players located in New Jersey in partnership with international software provider 888. HarrahsCasino.com is a safe place to play online, but a limited game selection makes this casino difficult to recommend over other, larger online casinos.

Pros:

  • Solid welcome bonuses for new players
  • Licensed and legal in New Jersey
  • Effective deposits and fast withdrawals

Cons:

  • Limited game variety
  • Blackjack and roulette are the only table games
  • No video poker available

Ratings:

Overall: 3.2

  • Reputation and Licensing: 4.5
  • Game Variety: 1.5
  • Bonuses and Promotions: 3.5
  • Deposits and Withdrawals: 4.0
  • Software and Graphics: 2.5

An assortment of new players and ongoing promotions do well to draw new players in, but a relatively small collection of games may make it difficult for HarrahsCasino.com to keep players around when there are other NJ casinos with so many more games. With fewer than 100 games in total, Harrah’s Online is one of the smallest casino sites in New Jersey.

On the other hand, a strong loyalty rewards program may appeal to fans of the Caesars and Harrah’s brands. The Total Rewards program is one of the most comprehensive loyalty programs in gambling, with connections to nearly 40 real-world resorts and casinos around the world. Online and real-world play are both rewarded, and those rewards can be redeemed online at HarrahsCasino.com or any of the many properties included in Total Rewards.

Although Harrah’s Online Casino is a safe place to play (you can see its NJ license here), the game selection could use a major boost any time now. With blackjack and roulette being the only table games on offer, one easy fix would be for HarrahsCasino.com to add a variety of other games such as Caribbean Stud, Three Card Poker and others along those lines.

While Harrah’s is weak in terms of game selection, it is strong in promotions and bonuses. A $10 no-deposit bonus and $300 first deposit bonus await all new players, and neither has overly difficult wagering requirements. HarrahsCasino.com promotions are certainly above average compared to other NJ casinos.

Harrah’s Online Casino Bonus

All new players automatically qualify for two welcome bonuses when signing up for an account at HarrahsCasino.com. First is a $10 no-deposit bonus that you can get just for signing up for an account with no deposit necessary. Once you’re signed up and verified, Harrah’s will give you $10 to try the casino and win real money.

After that, you can make a real money deposit of your own to claim a 100% up to $300 bonus. This means Harrah’s Online NJ will match your first deposit dollar-for-dollar to give you up to $300 in bonus funds.

Here’s how both work.

$10 Signup Bonus

The $10 signup bonus requires only that you sign up for an account using your real identity. Once Harrah’s verifies that you are the true owner of the account and if you’re located in New Jersey at the time, they’ll give you $10 to try the casino.

No bonus code is necessary to claim this offer.

Releasing the Bonus: You may withdraw the bonus and anything won by wagering the bonus after wagering the bonus 1x on slots, 5x on roulette and 10x on video poker or blackjack. This means if you receive a $10 bonus and win $20 with it, you would have to place a total of $30 in wagers in slots before withdrawing your $10 bonus and the $20 in winnings.

100% up to $300 Deposit Bonus

The other major promotion for new players is a 100% match bonus added to your first deposit for up to $300 extra. What this means is you can deposit $10 to get a $10 bonus, $50 to get a $50 bonus, $100 to get a $100 bonus and so on. The size of your deposit determines the size of your bonus, up to a maximum of $300.

Releasing the Bonus: After you make your first deposit, the bonus funds will be listed as pending and then released in $10 increments. For every 10 Tier Credits you earn (by playing real money games), $10 of your bonus funds will be released to your account and become eligible for withdrawal.

Tier Credits (TCs) are a part of the Total Rewards program (explained below) and are earned at a rate of 10 TCs for every $20 wagered. This means that you need to wager $200 for every $10 increment of bonus money. That works out to a 20x rollover, which is about average for online casino bonuses. However, the fact that the bonus is released in $10 increments rather than in one big chunk makes it easier for small stakes players to release as much of the bonus as possible.

Total Rewards Loyalty Program

Harrah’s Casino is a part of the Total Rewards loyalty program that rewards online players and guests of Caesars/Harrah’s properties around the world. Whether you play slots online at HarrahsCasino.com, stay at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas or dine at any Total Rewards restaurant, you earn Reward Credits (RCs) and Tier Credits (TCs) at the same time.

When it comes to online play, you earn 1 TC and 1 RC for every $20 wagered at Harrah’s Online NJ.

Tier Credits

TCs are used to determine your Tier Status in the rewards program. As you move up through the four levels, increasingly valuable benefits are unlocked. You can see a full list of benefits at TotalRewards.com, but some examples would be receiving discounts at casino gift shops, hotel discounts, invitations to special events and more.

The more TCs you earn in any calendar year, the bigger the perks.

Reward Credits

RCs can be redeemed online at HarrahsCasino.com for cash or in-person at participating Total Rewards properties and restaurants. Online, you can redeem your RCs at Harrah’s Casino at a rate of $1 for every 100 RCs.

You also have the option to move all RCs earned online over to your Total Rewards account for real-world use. In this case, you can use RCs to get free play at Caesars-owned casinos (including in Atlantic City), hotels, participating restaurants, spas and casino shops.

Harrahs Game Variety

Game variety is the one area in which HarrahsCasino.com comes up short compared to other NJ online casinos. With software provided by 888, Harrah’s NJ only offers games from a handful of providers including IGT, WMS, NextGen and of course 888.

The majority of the game variety here consists of slots from those aforementioned providers. For slots, you’ll find popular titles such as Raging Rhino, Cash Stampede and a collection of Wheel of Fortune Games. A good number of the slots available here are the same titles you’ll find at the actual Caesars Casino in Atlantic City.

Table games are lacking in variety with blackjack and a couple variations of roulette being the only options. This is an area where Harrah’s has really dropped the ball in our opinion. There are so many other potential table games out there, yet they only offer these two? It’s really quite surprising. There is also no video poker to speak of, although the HarrahsOnline.com website does reserve a space for video poker. Hopefully that means they intend to add video poker games in the near future.

Older HarrahsCasino.com reviews published elsewhere list upwards of 120 to 160 games, but we did not find that many. In fact, some of the promotional text on the Harrah’s website even mentions there being “more than 120” games. We count less than 100 with the full games collection consisting of:

  • 79 slots
  • 1 blackjack
  • 4 roulette variations

Harrahs Casino Software

Harrah’s Online operates on a simple software platform developed by international gaming giant 888. The 888 platform is designed to provide games developed in-house by 888 as well as games from other software companies such IGT, WMV and NextGen. Although game selection is somewhat limited compared to other online casinos, the actual software runs smoothly, loads games quickly and is easy to use.

Players visiting HarrahsCasino.com from a desktop can play online with no download necessary. Whether you have a PC, Mac or other operating system, you’ll have no trouble playing right at the Harrah’s website.

Users on the go can download the official Harrah’s mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. You can search for Harrah’s online in your smartphone’s app store or just visit HarrahsCasino.com for a direct link to the official mobile app. The Harrah’s mobile app is also compatible with iPads and Android tablets.

Graphics and overall visual styling are average at best. All games run fine and are certified to be safe, but none of the games are truly eye-popping. Many of the games are direct ports from real-world games that you might find at Caesars Atlantic City, but without the same level of crisp graphics.

Harrah’s Casino Slots

Harrah’s Casino Online offers just shy of 80 slots with games designed by a small handful of slots providers. You’ll find the usual slots games themed after ancient Egypt and Greek Gods, but not a whole lot in terms of completely unique games. Some of the games we found most engaging include:

  • Raging Rhino
  • Cash Stampede
  • Wheel of Fortune (multiple variations on this theme)
  • Manic Millions
  • Ultimate Universe
  • Casino Reels

For the most part, the slots at Harrah’s Online are simple and straightforward: you spin the reels and get paid if the right symbols line up. There are some other software providers out there right now putting out advanced games that take the players on a journey through in-depth bonus rounds and advanced features, but the slots collection at Harrah’s consists mostly of simple, fast-paced games.

There are also a few progressive jackpot games on offer with jackpots ranging from about $15,000 to almost $50,000. At the time of this review, Harrah’s Online had exactly three progressive jackpots on offer:

  • Casino Reels: Jackpot last seen at $47,540.00
  • The Royals Go Camping: Jackpot last seen at $14,607.00
  • Ultimate Universe: Jackpot last seen at $23,343

Table Games and Video Poker

This category of casino games is a huge swing-and-miss for Harrah’s Online NJ. The entirety of this category consists only of blackjack and roulette. There is just one version of blackjack called Classic Blackjack and four versions of roulette that are all pretty similar. As far as video poker goes, here is absolutely nothing.

Why Harrah’s Online doesn’t offer more table games or even a single video poker game is mind-boggling. The software platform is powered by 888, which is one of the world’s largest online gaming brands. We know for a fact that 888 has developed plenty of table games for other online casinos around the world, so it’s puzzling why Harrah’s has such a shortage of table games.

It is the same story for video poker as well. Harrah’s Casino does have a category on its website for video poker, but it is completely empty. Hopefully this means Harrah’s intends to add table games imminently, we’re also not going to hold our breath when there are so many other online casinos in NJ.

Here’s the full list of table games on offer at Harrah’s Online:

  • Classic Blackjack
  • Roulette
  • European Roulette
  • French Roulette
  • American Roulette

Harrah’s NJ Deposit Methods

Moving back to a more positive note, Harrah’s Online does support a wide range of deposit methods that you can use to fund your account. Whether you want to use a credit card, debit card, an e-wallet like PayPal or even physical cash, loading your account is easy.

Harrah’s does allow people located outside New Jersey to sign up and deposit. If you’re not in New Jersey at the moment but plan to be there soon, you can get an early start by signing up for an account and making a deposit. However, you can only play for real money when you’re actually inside New Jersey. Withdrawals can be initiated from anywhere in the world as well.

Harrah’s State-by-State Operations

Harrah’s has a wide reach in the US with casinos in eleven states and counting. As regulated sports betting rolls out across the country, we can expect to see Harrah’s be involved every step of the way, starting with New Jersey and expanding outwards from there as additional states authorize retail sportsbooks and online betting.

Harrah’s parent company Caesars Entertainment has even more casinos located around the country, but below we will be focusing specifically on casinos bearing the Harrah’s name.

Below, we will look at every state in which Harrah’s operates and outline its plan for sports betting in the state. Harrah’s has already launched sports betting in some locations and will continue to expand moving forward. Here’s a look at what’s happening now and what may happen in the future.

Arizona

  • Land-Based Casino: Harrah’s Ak-Chin

Arizona has a strong tribal gaming element that has made legal sports betting a complicated issue to date. A bill introduced in 2019 would have allowed tribal casinos to operate on-site sportsbooks and betting kiosks throughout the state, but that bill was shot down before it could advance through the legislature.

There is some indication Arizona will eventually get something done regarding sports betting, but the timeline is uncertain for now. In the meantime, Harrah’s Ak-Chin will be ready to act if the legal landscape does change. As we have seen in other states, Harrah’s has the experience and technology to capitalize on sports betting in whatever forms it is legal.

California

  • Land-Based Casino: Harrah’s Resort Southern California

California has emerged as one of the most promising yet complicated markets for legal sports betting. On one hand, the state’s existing gambling infrastructure and large population make it a very attractive market for operators.

On the other hand, various stakeholders have emerged with wildly different views on how sports betting should be regulated. This has slowed progress immensely, established uncertainty and derailed past attempts to pass legislation.

Nevada

  • Land-Based Casinos: Harrah’s Las Vegas, Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Harrah’s Laughlin and Harrah’s Reno

Harrah’s operates numerous casinos throughout Nevada with retail sportsbooks at each except the Lake Tahoe location. Harrah’s is also indirectly involved in mobile betting with parent company Caesars Entertainment offering a mobile app that users can download and activate in-person at any Caesars or Harrah’s property.

New Jersey

  • Land-Based Casino: Harrah’s Atlantic City

Harrah’s and Caesars Entertainment are very active in the New Jersey market with land-based casinos, mobile sports betting and online casino games on offer. Caesars has the largest online presence of the two in New Jersey with a branded website and mobile app that offers sports betting and casino games.

Harrah’s Online NJ offers casino games only for now, but officials have said they plan to launch sports betting at some point.

Illinois

  • Land-Based Casinos: Harrah’s Joliet and Harrah’s Metropolis

The two Harrah’s locations in Illinois will almost certainly launch sportsbooks and mobile betting apps in the near future. Under Illinois gambling law, each casino may operate an on-premises sportsbook and one mobile betting app either independently or in partnership with a third-party provider.

Iowa

  • Land-Based Casino: Harrah’s Council Bluffs

Sports betting law in Iowa allows each casino to operate an on-site sportsbook and up to two individually-branded sportsbook apps. Harrah’s Council Bluffs constructed a $2 million sportsbook after Iowa legalized betting and should be launching at least one mobile betting app shortly.

Louisiana

  • Land-Based Casinos: Harrah’s New Orleans and Harrah’s Louisiana Downs

Sports betting is not a shoo-in for Louisiana, but there are some reasons to be optimistic after a bill introduced in 2019 made significant process before dying in the House. If Louisiana does pass something, Harrah’s will be ready with locations in New Orleans and Bossier City.

Mississippi

  • Land-Based Casino: Harrah’s Gulf Coast

Harrah’s operates a retail sportsbook at its Gulf Coast location in Mississippi that features ten HD TVs, twelve large viewing screens and a full menu of betting options. Mississippi has not yet legalized mobile betting, but Harrah’s parent company Caesars Entertainment has the technical know-how to launch one quickly if state law changes.

Missouri

  • Land-Based Casino: Harrah’s North Kansas City

Missouri seems to be drawing ever closer to legalizing sports betting with numerous bills being introduced in recent years. One recent bill sought to authorize local casinos to launch retail sportsbooks and mobile betting apps. If Missouri does legalize sports betting, Harrah’s North Kansas City will be in position to capitalize.

North Carolina

  • Land-Based Casinos: Harrah’s Cherokee and Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River

In 2019, lawmakers gifted Harrah’s a monopoly over sports betting in North Carolina by passing a law authorizing tribal casinos to operate retail sportsbooks. That leaves just two casinos, both operated by Harrah’s, as the only places to bet on sports legally anywhere in the state.

Pennsylvania

  • Land-Based Casinos: Harrah’s Philadelphia

Harrah’s claimed its place in the PA sportsbook market with the launch of The Book at Harrah’s Philadelphia in January 2019. Harrah’s also holds a license for mobile betting and has confirmed it intends to launch a betting website and mobile app. What remains to be seen is if Harrah’s operates online betting in its own name or if it partners with a third-party provider.
